The recovery of twenty-one 1kg ehphredine-filled bags estimated to be worth R1, 3 million on the streets – one foreign national arrested in kempton park.

The EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit acted on a tip off received from a reliable source which led to the uncovering of twenty-one bags of ephedrine weighing one kilogram each valued at approximately R60, 000 each. A male foreign national was arrested when this expensive ingredient usually used in the manufacturing of cat and cocaine was found in his room at a guest house in Kempton Park. The discovery and the arrest took place this afternoon (02 Jan) at 15h00.

Ephedrine is an ingredient normally used in producing the drug cat and cocaine. Information received pointed to the ephedrine being temporarily housed at the identified guest house destined for manufacturing plants. The swift and timely action of the EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit managed to intercept the illicit goods.

The 43yr old arrested suspect of Nigerian origin was detained at Kempton Park police station on a charge of possession of an illicit substance. He is expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court.
