Vehicle crash, six lives lost.

Five adults and a child lost their lives after the minibus in which they were travelling, crashed against the metal centre barrier on M2 freeway East bound before Geldenhuys Interchange in Germiston Ekurhuleni. Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) rescue team from Germiston Central Fire Station, instantaneously responded out to the scene after receiving the call around 20:44 on Friday evening the 22nd December 2017.

On arrival, it was found that a minibus taxi carrying about nineteen passengers, crashed against the barrier on the freeway ejecting one adult patient out who was amongst the deceased before coming to stop. Six patients in total were declared deceased on scene by paramedics, two other passengers sustained critical injuries, nine sustained serious but stable injuries while three grieved with minor injuries as on scene. The driver and two minors were among the casualties. All casualties were road transported by Private ambulances to Charlotte Maxeke hospital, Hillbrow clinic both in Johannesburg and Betha Gxowa hospital in Germiston.

Two lanes had to be closed for the duration of the medical rescue operations and investigations by the law enforcement units. Ekurhuleni Traffic Officials together with SAPS accident investigating officials and Gauteng Provincial Traffic officials, all as a collective, received and conducted on scene investigations.
