Hijacked diesel double-tanker valued at over R300,000 is recovered with contents intact

On Tuesday, 20 February around 05h30 in the morning, the EMPD Equestrian Unit members were provided with information by Tracker SA about the location of diesel tanker from Mozambique which was en route to Johannesburg hijacked on N12 freeway in the Delmas area. The truck was hijacked around 02h30.

The metro police acted swiftly acted on the information and with the assistance of the GPS coordinates were able to locate the hijacked tanker on Tom Jones Street in Benoni with no suspects in sight. Evidence on the scene pointed to the hijackers having attempted to unhook the trailers but were apparently spooked off and decided to abandon their nefarious deeds. The articulated truck with two diesel tankers valued at R315, 000 was found with its contents intact. The recovered vehicle was later handed over to the owner.

The driver of the hijacked tanker was thrown out the truck in the Kempton Park area where he opened the case of hijacking of his truck. In-depth investigations are underway in an effort to locate and apprehend the persons responsible for the hijacking.
