Destiny IkusasaLethu Co-operative, founded in 2017, is an ongoing youth development project, currently focused on agriculture and youth empowerment. IkusasaLethu encourages the youth to think outside the box, to revive their minds and to also promote unity and bring back the spirit of Ubuntu.

Since the beginning of this year, they have already done six (6) projects which included Job Search Workshop, Entrepreneur Workshop and Social Worker Programme, where they discussed issues that affect the community of Etwatwa. They are involved with stakeholders such as National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), Gauteng Enterprise Propeller (GEP) and Social Development. Precious Mkhize, the founder of Destiny Ikusasalethu Co-operative previously worked for Statistics South Africa, where she worked with the youth to facilitate them. When the project ended, she decided to recruit some of her colleagues on her current project.

“We started meeting at my place where we discussed issues that we face in our community and came up with solutions so that we can make possible changes. We also have a WhatsApp group where we share information such as job opportunities to empower the youth. We came together with one vision: To make a change, this is small, but our vision is broad.” Said Precious Mkhize. Pastor Khoza of Island Restoration Church Ministry supported ikusasaLethu from the beginning, where they used the church for their meetings. Pastor Khoza also gave them part of the land at church, which is used for their agriculture project.

On the 10th of November 2017, IkusasaLethu will host an event at Island Restoration Church Ministry, which will be aimed at changing the mindset of the youth in the community. This event will be beneficial to the community of Etwatwa. This event follows after a successful Entrepreneur Workshop which took place on the 9th of October 2017.
