The city of Ekurhuleni Council’s ordinary sitting was held on the 24th of February 2022 at Germiston Civic Centre, Council Chambers with Councillor Raymond Dhlamini as the speaker of the council. The sitting included councillors, MECs, executive mayor, executives, and members of the panel with different political parties about issues that require resolutions and to reach a consensus around community problems.
The multi-party Coalition government issued a report ‘The Adjustment Budget’ that will reroute the city to ensure quality service delivery to the residents of Ekurhuleni, the budget included:
– Additional R117 million have been allocated to promote the security of the energy supply.
– R40 million for maintenance and R77 million for new infrastructure.
– Grant of R55 million to be used to fund job opportunities in the city.
– Allocation of R7 million and R10 million in the human settlement section to deal with repairs and maintenance of Kwa-Themba & Wadeville hostels.
– R11 million to deal with sinkholes.
– R2 million to supplement the payment to the SPCA for operation in the city even though there are insufficient funds.
The capital expenditure will remain focusing on service delivery, revenue generation projects which are already in progress, and the utilisation of the National & Provincial grants. Savings in various departments will help to address more service delivery backlogs, streetlights, grass cutting, tree maintenance, roads, and stormwater maintenance & repairs.
The ward committee elections will take place on the 28th of March 2022 until the 30th of April 2022 and the nominations will be from the 1st of March until the 11th of March 2022, the residents of the city of Ekurhuleni are allowed to vote and nominate so that they can take part in ensuring that their voices are heard.
The city of Ekurhuleni also announced the new development of the ‘’My CoE App’’ for advanced customer interface to improve their services and boost new functionalities in a technologically form.
A new whip of the council was elected to serve and represent the whole members of the council, Alderman Kheths Shandu.
