A culprit apprehended for possessions of unlicensed firearms and ammunition

DUNNOTOR _ On Monday 13 May 2024 at 23h00, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Community Liaison Unit (CLU), Specialised Task Team (STT) Officers in conjunction with the South African Police Service (SAPS), apprehended a 29-year-old male suspect, for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunitions, in the Dunnottar area.

The Officers received information from Crime Intelligence, about a male suspected of having an unlicensed firearm and the information, led the Officers to a residence on Rhodes Avenue, in Dunnotar. The male suspect was identified and found to be in possession of a 9mm firearm, with serial number filed off and three (3) live rounds. The room that he resides in was thoroughly searched and on top of the wardrobe, was a shoe box containing eight ( used shotgun cartridges. The suspect was immediately arrested.

All the recovered items were booked for safekeeping and further investigation. The suspect was detained at the Dunnotar Police Station and is expected, to appear at the relevant Magistrate’s Court soon.
