On the 05 May 2025, Lumala’s family and Tamale’s gathered in Boksburg Magistrate Court regarding the case of a molested minor, whom the victim’s family decided to keep anonymous.
The 11 year-old daughter was molested by someone whom the family considered as a family friend, Endrine Tamale. The victim’s mother, Annette Lumala, said she and Endrine met in 2018 and became close; they’d even visit each other, until he got married and introduced his wife to them. The relationship continued, with the wife involved now, it only intensified. In 2019, the molested went to visit them for December holidays. Little did they know that’s when their little girl, who was only 6 years at the time, would get sexually assaulted.
But no one noticed.
December 2024, the molested went to visit again with her sister, Stacey, who was in pursuit of employment. Stacey left with Endrine’s wife who was to help her find or look for employment, and the molested stayed behind with Endrine and his son, who was four years old. That’s when the second rape happened again, she was 11 years old this time.
“She suddenly stopped being a bubbly, jolly child as we knew her, she’d isolate herself. And when I asked her if there was anything wrong, she’d say there was nothing. I was concerned, thinking she was being bullied at school.” The victim’s mother, Annette, said.
Annette got transferred to work somewhere else for three weeks, and when she came back on Easter Monday, 21 April 2025, her daughter was pregnant.
That’s when she pleaded with her daughter to tell her everything. Her girl started crying, saying she can’t disclose because she doesn’t want to die or have her family killed. Apparently, the accused, Endrine Tamale, was making threats to say if she ever told anyone, he’d kill her with the rest of her family. “Because he is big, and she is small, no one will believe her.”
Annette’s daughter confessed everything to her mother, who then took her to be examined at the Child Centre, and it was found that the child was 18 weeks pregnant, and when they calculated, it was around the same time when she was with the Tamale’s family. They then proceeded to the police station, and Edrine got arrested on the 22 of April 2022. His first appearance was on the 24 of April 2025, and second, 30 April 2025. 05 of May 2025 being his third.
There was a period where the victim’s mother had noticed that her daughter’s periods had stopped, but when she went the doctor, the doctor said it was normal for children to skip periods especially in their ages, or to even have irregular periods. Said it can happen up to six (6) months.
The Lumala’s daughter is currently with the social workers, they are busy counselling her while the family are waiting for the DNA results.
Endrine’s wife never contacted the victim’s mother ever since. The only person who made contact was the mother of the accused, pleading for the case to be dropped.
Kamya Sinaje, another family friend believes everything was premediated because on the day of the second rape, which happened December 2024, the victim’s father was robbed and beaten – which led to one of his ears being affected, he can’t hear properly anymore.
The Lumala’s family is badly affected. Annette said her daughter needs to stop school because they don’t want her to be bullied. They might even have to transfer her to a different school after the pregnancy.
They tried as a family to keep this under wraps, even from the girl’s teachers.
Annette said she now has to go with her victimised daughter everywhere she goes, even to the toilet. She’s even sleeping with her, and she’s concerned that her daughter will never be a normal child again.
The father, Stephen Anguria, said the rape affected his relationship badly with Endrian and his family.
One of the community members said the Lumala’s family is a quiet family who operates a small business. And he had to close his business to come and show them support in this unfavourable situation because he’s also a parent.
Unfortunately, none of the Tamale’s family wanted to share their side of their story.
Endrian’s bail hearing is scheduled for the 14th of May 2025. And Lumala’s family said they don’t know what they would do to him if he were to be granted bail.
