Three men prepare to test their bodies beyond measure by walking a 572 kilometre distance from Vosloorus to Durban in an effort of creating awareness against Gender Based Violence (GBV) which has reached alarming levels recently.The awareness walk will commence at the Vosloorus police station on the 25th of November 2020 where the three men (Wiseman Langa, Sphiwe Nhlapo and Motsamai Tsotetsi) will be escorted by various policing authorities. One of the walk initiators Wiseman Langa explained on the 19th of November 2020, saying: “We choose to raise awareness against GBV because it has reached alarming levels recently, we as men are appealing to other men through this awareness walk to take responsibility and fight against this scourge, this is not the last programme we are implementing, we want to implement men dialogues in the future.
“However our first stop from Vosloorus within the walk will be at Heidelberg where we will be snatching the moment to distribute GBV awareness pamphlets and hoist placards spreading the awareness message; PSA served as our main sponsor and POWA is also on board along with the SAPS, EMPD and the Metropolitan organisation while the VBDTA gracefully injected one thousand rand (R1000) into this great awareness cause,” Langa shared.Cedric Mbatsan (Branch Manager in the retail division in Johannesburg) also seized the opportunity to unpack more regarding the awareness walk, stating that: “As the Metropolitan we are grateful to part of the initiative; we are also looking forward to see this awareness walk becoming a success and fulfilling its main purpose,” he expressed.
