ActionSA Welcomes Hawks’ Investigation of Beauty Contest Tender Corruption

This comes after ActionSA, in a statement dated 27 March 2023, uncovered that the contract was unduly awarded to a Nelspruit-based Mzimari Productions Company, for over 12 years without following proper supply chain processes.

The Hawks’ Directorate of Priority Crime Investigation has informed our lawyers that the matter has been referred to the Special Corruption Unit which will investigate the awarding of the tender of Miss Mpumalanga.

In South Africa, public procurement is extensively regulated under Section 217(1) of the Constitution, which provides that, public institutions must comply with the principles of fairness, equity, transparency, competitiveness, and cost-effectiveness when procuring contracts for goods or services.

It is our firm belief that the former chairman of the board, whose multiple calls for investigation into this contract have been blatantly ignored, will be vindicated after this investigation is concluded.

For too long unethical and criminal behaviour has been allowed in this country.

Committed to upholding the rule of law, ActionSA has declared corruption Public Enemy Number One and will make every effort to rid our country of all forms of corrupt activities by the State at the expense of our people.
