AFCKO karate team wins a tournament

Certain sports such as karate are not visible in places like townships and sponsorship for such sports is hard to find but Mr Tenyane and Mr Sibisi took it upon their mandate to encourage the youth to take part in the katate sport.

On the 27th of July 2024, the Thabiso Tenyane Afcko Karate Team attended the Gauteng IKO Matsushima Tournament at Soweto Orlando Community Hall with 35 students being both female and males.

The tournament was competitive, and more than 15 Karate clubs around Gauteng attended the event. The AFCKO Karate Team did not come back home empty-handed, they made it a point that they scoop gold and silverware.

Winners of the tournament were:

1. Noluthando Sithubeni
2. Mnqobi Mabaso
3. Mendy Nkosi
4. Lesedi Maseko
5. Siyanda Sibiya
6. Khensane Baloyi

“It is amazing how our youth can prosper if they are channelled on the right platforms such as sports because sports will keep them away from crime, drugs, and teenage pregnancy. The community should play a crucial role in our youth by encouraging them to play all different kinds of sports,” said Thulani Sibisi.
