On Wednesday, 27 August 2025, the Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Finance in the City of Ekurhuleni, Ald. Jongizizwe Dlabathi, handed over study materials to learners at Tlakula High School in KwaThema.
This handover forms part of Ald. Dlabathi’s long-standing commitment to the school, which he adopted during his tenure as the Whip of Council. Over the years, he has consistently supported learners with a special focus on Mathematics, Science, and Accounting.
Beyond academic support, Ald. Dlabathi has been a strong advocate for parental involvement in education, the fight against gangsterism and school violence, as well as holistic learner development through social programmes and safety initiatives.
These sustained interventions have contributed to remarkable progress at Tlakula High. The school has improved significantly, rising from a 58.86% pass rate in 2016 to an impressive 82% in 2024, placing it among the top-performing schools in KwaThema.
