Mamohau Nkosi, who is an author of a book titled ‘Think Like The Wealthy Not The Rich’, and a podcaster of ‘Think Like the Wealthy’ details her inspiration behind her dedication, hard work and inspiration behind her book.
Nkosi was born and bred in Daveyton, Emaphupheni, which is an extension of Etwatwa. The author is also an astute businesswoman who owns a number of properties. She attained her BTech Degree in Civil Engineering at the Tshwane University of Technology and possesses an accreditation in Project Management with Project Management Institute (PMI). Nkosi has a lengthy experience in the construction profession and is a founder of Inala Wealth Services, which is a nonprofit organisation.
“I was fortunate to be hired by a company that helped me explore management. I managed contracts and procurement processes. As a result, I found a connection with management. I got people to believe in themselves and follow their dreams. That gave me satisfaction which ignited my passion as a Project Manager also as a Leader. That way, I’d see a project from start to finish while developing people,” excitedly expressed Nkosi. She also delved deeper and explained how her enthusiasm for building wealth stems from. “My career was growing rapidly. When looking at the record of money I had received over the years from working I realised that I spent a lot of money on nothing tangible. This was after 20 years of working. I discovered that there is no education as far as money is concerned. We don’t know how to make money, manage it, grow it and make it benefit us. I then educated myself on how to use money efficiently,” uttered the passionate woman.
Nkosi further pointed out that she and her then husband would attend seminars on how to grow their property business, invest in it and profit from it. Understanding this concept, Nkosi exposed that she had a better comprehension that her mindset had to change. Her book details how patience, delayed gratification, consistency and discipline are crucial in achieving wealth. “Wealth can be possible for an everyday person. My mentor used to work at Shoprite and she’s economically free today. She and her husband now own a blocks of flats which is good income that they built over time with understanding and patience that this is what they’re building towards. You need to become intentional and mindful of the activities that you do daily as they affect your future. Understand that every decision you make has a financial impact. Whether you go out, have a Netflix or DStv account, go to the mall and spend on what you didn’t budget for; whatever your mind craves, it’ll have a financial impact on you. Be weary of where your money goes,” attested Nkosi.
According to Nkosi, her drive to educate people about wealth originates from growing up in an impecunious environment. Acquiring an understanding of money, she wanted to impart her knowledge to lower income people and middle class people. The book does not only accommodate older people but children as well. One of the vital elements of this book is to teach individuals the power of not depending only on one income, but to find ways to supplement one’s income by generating more money.
“Having a side hustle is deemed as something so difficult to accomplish when it’s not. It can start as small as selling two containers and buying four more after making profit. I advise people to open a bank account when they have businesses and not have access to the money until a year or two. It’s possible for banks to not even show the amount that is accumulating on the bank statement or app. That way, it’s easier to forget about the account and allow money to grow. To buy stock for the business, one could use their own money or savings, that teaches discipline and proper budget management,”
The ‘Think Like The Wealthy Not The Rich’ book is available at Google Play as an audio and Amazon for R250. It has gained popularity and has taken Nkosi to powerhouses such as Lesedi FM, Expeesso Morning Show, Umhlobo Wenene FM and Tru FM among other radio stations. Mamohau Nkosi remains a key game changer to society and is nominated for the Gynae Warriors Network Awards under Gynae Warriors’ 100 Most Iconic Women in Africa.
