ANOTHER POWER FAILURE AFFECTS RAND WATER’S MAPLETON BOOSTER STATION

On Friday, 28 September 2024, Rand Water reported a complete power failure at its Mapleton

Booster Station, and the power supply was restored to the station in the early hours of Sunday

morning. Unfortunately, the same station experienced another power failure at 07h00 on Sunday

(29 September 2024).

Rand Water’s booster station has its electricity supplied by the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE), which is

in turn supplied by Eskom.

Rand Water, CoE and Eskom technicians are currently investigating the cause of the power failure

and have not provided the estimated time for the restoration.

As a result of the second incident, the following Rand Water reservoirs may experience low levels

or become depleted: Brakpan, Vlakfontein, Bronberg, Wildebeesfontein, Selcourt, and

Stompiesfontein.

If the above-mentioned reservoirs run dry, water supply interruptions are likely to affect the

following municipalities: City of Ekurhuleni and City of Tshw
