Just weeks into his tenure, Author Emmanuel Sithole has demonstrated innovation and strong leadership in steering the Ekurhuleni Authors Forum into a new era. Appointed on January 17, Sithole brings entrepreneurial insight and renewed energy to his role as regional director and CEO, leading the transformation of the organisation from a forum into a fully fledged foundation. With extensive experience running multiple businesses, Sithole approaches the role with both excitement and humility. “I’m nervous and excited, because I knew that someday I would have to lead people in the literary space—but I never thought it would be across the entire Ekurhuleni. It still feels like a dream,” he said following his appointment.
Outlining his responsibilities, Sithole explained, “My duty is to oversee governance, operations, leadership structures and everything related to the growth and advancement of the organisation.” While the appointment carries significant responsibility, and the age gap seemed intimidating at first he credits his early success to experience and the collective backing of the executive leadership, which enabled him to implement changes within his first two weeks that have revolutionised how the foundation operates. According to Ekurhuleni Authors Foundation founder Mr. Mazibuko, the organisation which was formed in 2011 had long sought a leader aligned with its ambitions to expand programmes and improve participation among authors across the region. Sithole’s appointment, he said, reflects the executive committee’s long-term vision.
“He has been part of our authors’ group since 2021 and consistently brought forward brilliant ideas to grow author participation, increase exposure, and strengthen the foundation,” Mazibuko said. “As the executive leaders of the organisation, and the committee, we were very impressed with his ideas on how to run the organisation that is why we gave him the reins.” He further highlighted Sithole’s strategic thinking, particularly his focus on technological innovation to better leverage the organisation’s platform. Under Sithole’s leadership, the foundation has gained renewed momentum. He now oversees operations across all seven regional branches—Alberton, Boksburg, Benoni, Brakpan, Germiston, Springs, and Kempton Park—as the organisation continues to expand its footprint.
As the youngest CEO and regional director in the foundation’s history, Sithole’s leadership marks a significant milestone, signalling a new chapter of growth, innovation, and inclusivity for authors across Ekurhuleni. Mazibuko concluded by encouraging authors throughout the region to join the foundation and embrace the organisation’s new approach, noting that it would be of great benefit to the local literary community.
