BERTHA GXOWA COMMEMORATED AS A SELFLESS LEADER

‘Discipline’ continues to resonate with the name of the late ANC Women’s league stalwart Bertha Gxowa as attested by the ANC Women Caucus’ members (City of Ekurhuleni) and one of her grandchild during a wreath-laying ceremony held at Thomas Nkobi Memorial, today, on the 21st of August 2020.The heroine’s grandchild, Vuyani Ngwenya, shared that, “My grandmother was a disciplined individual who refused to be defiled in any way, even as a ANC party member she upheld the same standard which most deployed ANC leaders lately lack, as they use their influential positions to carry out corruption acts that we broadly hear about in the media, it’s hard to even recruit young people to join the ANC party as most of them are reluctant to join because of what they hear, my grandmother died on November 28,2010 when she was 76 years old and she was still an active ANC member who instituted discipline, please continue to honour her as you did today,” Ngwenya expressed.

Joseph Lebelo councillor of ward 50 in Katlehong outlined that, “We grew up under the wing of an organisational disciplined member of the ANC, she started the ANC branch in Katlehong in her own house where I worked as an administrator after the banishment of the ANC party was eased, we recruited members and she always requested anyone who wielded the ANC bank card to account to all the members concerning the usage of the money, she was the first treasurer of the National Women’s league who strongly endorsed decent ethical conducts and also hated people who tarnished the image of the ANC,” Lebelo vividly disclosed.MMC of Health and Social Development, Cllr, Nomadlozi Nkosi, also revealed that, “Mamma Bertha Gxowa loved her country; she sacrificed her family’s time to fight for women’s rights and human rights for all citizens of South Africa, she is an example for all women continuing to fight for women’s rights in all walks of life, we must be united as women to propel the agenda of women in the ANC party and this women we are celebrating today was an icon who preached about unity amongst women and she held a high moral value which needs to be upheld by us as present leaders of the ANC,” Nkosi uttered
