GERMISTON – On Friday, 19 January 2024, Councillor Leshaka Manamela, a Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Environmental Resource and Waste Management (ERWM), launched the ‘Clean Your Kasi, Manje Namhlanje’ campaign in Thembisa.
This local effort aims to tackle the ongoing issues of illegal dumping and the backlog in grass-cutting across the City of Ekurhuleni.
The initiative kicked off with the cleaning of Mooifontein Cemetery, aiming to restore cleanliness to community spaces.
MMC Manamela highlighted the campaign’s significance, emphasizing that ‘Clean Your Kasi, Manje Namhlanje’ goes beyond being just a campaign. It seeks to foster greater collaboration with residents and communities to care for their immediate surroundings. Taking a stand against illegal dumping and neglected grass in our townships, the initiative calls for action, here and now.
“It’s not right to profess love for cleanliness and the environment without actively preserving it. Let’s unite and safeguard our environment, as it plays a crucial role in our well-being. We rely on the environment for our existence and must treat it with care.”
‘Clean Your Kasi, Manje Namhlanje’ plans to implement various activities focused on eradicating illegal dumping and sustaining green spaces, primarily in the townships. These efforts will be accompanied by educational programs to raise awareness about proper waste disposal and encourage community participation in maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
