The City joined the global observance of Anti-Corruption Day under the theme “Uniting with Youth Against Corruption: Shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity”. City Manager Dr Imogen Mashazi delivered a compelling address, emphasising the importance of collective action in the fight against corruption.
Dr Mashazi acknowledged the pervasive nature of corruption, describing it as a harsh reality that affects people across the globe. She highlighted how corruption exacerbates challenges, deepens inequalities, and fuels injustices in society. “Corruption is a reality that confronts many around the world, creating challenges, tragedies, and inequalities, many of which are directly tied to its existence,” she stated.
The City Manager made a heartfelt appeal to all staff members to actively participate in combatting corruption. She urged employees to refrain from engaging in corrupt activities and to report any unethical behaviour they encounter.
“Our commitment to transparency and accountability is vital in shaping a future built on integrity. Each one of us has a role to play in ensuring that corruption finds no place within our municipality,” Dr Mashazi asserted.
The City remains steadfast in its efforts to uphold ethical governance, promote accountability, and inspire a culture of integrity, particularly among its youth. Staff are reminded to utilise the municipality’s dedicated fraud hotline to report any instances of corruption confidentially.
Let us all unite against corruption and build a legacy of integrity for generations to come.
