The construction on the N12 Daveyton interchange has reached a significant milestone with the completion of the first three phases, and both motorists and residents are experiencing a big difference when it comes to ease of movement.
The construction is aimed at improving the movement of persons and goods around Daveyton and Etwatwa and alleviating traffic congestion, especially during peak hours.
The project is being undertaken in four phases, and three of these have been completed already.
Phase 1 was the construction of Heald Street Maroleng and Link roads; whilst Phase 2 was the widening of the N12 auxiliary lanes on the Western and Eastern sides between the Daveyton and the existing Kingsway interchanges. This also included a portion of the stormwater systems.
The third phase was the construction of the Daveyton interchange off-ramp and the installation of guardrails. Currently, the project is on Phase 4 which is the reconstruction and widening of a portion of Alliance Road and will also include the construction of a new bridge, an on-ramp, walkways along Alliance Road and stormwater systems. This phase will be completed before the end of the financial year.
To date, the project has cost R92.5 million and created 76 direct jobs for the locals.
The City of Ekurhuleni wishes to thank motorists and residents in the area for their patience during the construction phase and we do hope that motorists and residents will forever observe and respect the rules of the road.
