Social crime prevention, Communications, Daveyton SAPS events organizing group, Daveyton SAPS members from different components, CPF, Community Safety, Memeza NGO, Majuteni food town hyper, Daveyton main Clinic, and Naledi Bakery conducted a soup kitchen campaign in celebration of Mandela Day for 67 minutes.
The purpose of the event was to promote the spirit of giving to the less fortunate in the community and to show love and care to the community members.
The station decided to go with the idea of soup kitchen as it is winter, so they can provide for a warm meal to the needy people in the area.
In celebrating this day, they also engaged with the community to remind them that they have the ability to do anything, to make an impact, and to change their lives for the better.
“We reminded them that life of crime does not pay and that they need to always be on the right side of the law and keep their community safe for all.”
In the process, community members were also distributed with females and males condoms giving awareness about safe sex and they were also distributed with pamphlets for GBV, as we continue to fight against it. They were urged to keep on assisting the police in fighting crime in the community.
About 300 people were served with soup and bread.
For the second phase, the stakeholders proceeded to Theodore Ndaba home to donate with some groceries and sanitary pads for the homeless and victims of GBV residing in their home.
This campaign was conducted observing the theme of Nelson Mandela International Day 2024, which is “combating poverty and inequality in our hands.”
The stakeholders were shown and given appreciation for giving a little of their time to make a difference to the life of someone else and for starting with the members of the community around them.
