Driven by the motto “Khuluma Mhlali” is the Daveyton Stand up Charity Organisation together with ward 69 SANCO Kuzimesela VD aiming to uplift the lives of the community members.
The above-mentioned stakeholders want to bring back the dignity of the falling house that once sheltered Sodosi, Nathi, and Lindiwe Mndaweni in Mpondo Street, Daveyton.
The house has been in an unpleasant state for eight years now, and it has forced the Mdaweni family to move out. Seeing the state of the house, Sodosi and his family moved to stay with his brother.
Speaking to Ekurhuleni News, the founder of the organisation Nsizwa Mahlangu mentioned that they once did a similar project like this one, where they helped an elder of the community by rebuilding her house in 2016.
“After seeing that the elder’s house is falling and for the longest time not being attended, we, therefore, have taken the initiative to come together as the community like before and take this issue to the media and see if we won’t get help,”
“The family man has been crying out to get help but nothing has been done. He once approached the previous ward councillor to assist with the matter and we don’t know what transpired. It is for that reason we have decided to take the matter into our own hands and help Mndaweni,” said Mahlangu.
Ekurhuleni News went to speak to the grant beneficiary, Mndaweni who was delighted to speak to the team, because he wishes to get help before he passes on.
The 71-year old said, “It has been eight years now not living in my house and not enjoying my space with my family. I wish that the house can be re-build so that I can be relieved and be happy again”.
The charity organisation has a soup kitchen that was initiated in 2016. They cook for the kids in the community on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
“To prove that we are doing well for the community, the mouths that we feed increases every day and we also cater for the elders now. We would like to get a positive response from the region so that we can be able to help Mndaweni and put back his smile,” said a member of the SANCO, Fikile Nkosi.
The Non-Profit Organisation is seeking donations of bricks, cement, and money to be able to help the Mndaweni family. For information contact Mahlangu on 061 039 7952/ 074 546 5182.
