DISABILITY AWARENESS ON MANDELA DAY

As South Africa continues to commemorate the life of the phenomenal icon, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela by admirable his deeds and lending a helping hand to those in need for 67 minutes, on the upcoming and anticipated 18th of July, which is well declared as Mandela day, a soup kitchen by and for disabled people shall be taking place in conjunction to cleaning up the homes of disabled and elderly people of Etwatwa community. This event will occur at Emaphupheni extension 17.

This well-timed event is organised by Silvia Motha who is living with a disability. Against all odds, Motha continues to display courage and zeal to serve her community to the best of her abilities.

She mentioned that the reason behind this initiative is to raise awareness of the abilities of disabled people in and around the community.

According to Motha, the history of disability awareness and the abilities of her kind have always been misunderstood one way or the other worldwide. It is for this reason that drove Silvia to highlight the abilities of disabled people by organizing such a glorified event of disability awareness through the passage of philanthropy.

“I would like to see members of our community not only feeling pity for disabled people like me but helping us to progress by giving us platforms and opportunities to showcase our capabilities as well as join hands with us on such projects that will develop our community instead of excluding us because of our disabilities,” said Motha.

Due to the world-known fact that every event is done based on financial contribution, Silvia Motha pleads with the community of Etwatwa and the Ekurhuleni Municipality at large to donate money, cleaning equipment, and food to the number of their capabilities to fulfill the purpose of the upcoming event that will surely impact the perception of community members on the awareness of disability.
