The City of Ekurhuleni’s council has given the thumbs-up to their budget for the 2024/25 financial year. This happened at a special meeting held on 14th June 2024 at the Alberton Civic Centre. The new budget is big: R60 billion for running things, which is 9% more than last year. They’ve also set aside R2.9 billion for big projects, up by 5.4%.
They’re also making changes to bills people pay. Rates for homes are going up by 4.9%, water bills by 9%, and sanitation by 7%. Electricity costs will also go up, somewhere between 11.02% and 12.74%.
The budget plan makes sure poor families get basic services for free and gives discounts to pensioners and people with low incomes. This shows the city is serious about helping everyone and taking care of those who need it most.
