The City of Ekurhuleni is making a big move to improve water management by transitioning 176 water supply accounts from Rand Water to its own billing system. This shift, set for completion by mid-2025, aims to streamline service delivery and ensure better resource control.
For years, some large-scale water users and residents on the city’s outskirts have been billed directly by Rand Water, limiting Ekurhuleni’s ability to oversee supply and conservation. By bringing these accounts under municipal billing, the city will have greater control, aligning with South Africa’s Water Services Act (Act 108 of 1997).
City spokesperson, Zweli Dlamini, reassures residents that the transition will be smooth, with no disruptions to service. The migration wraps up on June 30, and from July 1, affected customers will see their water and sanitation charges reflected on their municipal bills. These charges will follow the city’s approved tariff schedule, updated annually in July to match the financial year.
