Elders maintain a healthy lifestyle

Elders took an initiative to participate in sports and challenge their peers on activities of Pass and Kick a ball at Vosloorus Stadium on the 6th of July 2022.

One of the teams that participated was Shepherd’s Haven Community Development which consists of elders from the age of 58-85 years old who keep fit on an everyday basis.

Shepherd’s Haven won second place on the day. The elders do activities such as aerobics exercise, soccer, and dance every Monday to Friday at Assemblies of God Church based at Moleleki Ext2.

Part of starting the organisation was to bring the elders together for health purposes. The organisation was formed in May 2017 by Dineo Khoza and Deborah Mkhwanazi who is the team’s coach.

Peggy Williams who is 85 years old and the eldest on the team said, “It’s very important to exercise and be healthy as people around my age suffer from different chronic illnesses.”

The team has qualified for their next game which will take place at Germiston on the 29th of July 2022.
