EMPD OFFICER SUCCUMBS TO INJURIES AFTER BEING HIT BY A MOTOR VEHICLE
The City is saddened by the passing of an Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) officer who succumbed to injuries after being hit by a speeding vehicle this morning.
While executing law enforcement duties on the R24/N3 split at Gillooly’s interchange, the Freeway Unit officer was run over when attempting to stop a vehicle in the left lane.
The driver of the VW Polo fled the scene of the accident and was pursued by fellow officers and apprehended in Johannesburg. He was arrested, detained at Bedfordview police station and charged with culpable homicide, fleeing the scene of an accident and reckless and negligent driving.
