The long arm of the law caught up with three suspects believed to have been responsible for the hijacking of a white VW Polo on Friday night (14 June) in Duduza. The vehicle was found abandoned on Saturday, 15 June around 9am in KwaThema by the EMPD Equestrian Unit members. The recovered vehicle was taken to SAPS Van Ryn Deep pound in Benoni for safekeeping and further investigations.
Later in the afternoon around 4pm, information was received by the EMPD Equestrian Unit members that three suspects travelling in a vehicle believed to have been used in the Duduza hijacking on Friday night were arrested in Harrismith. SAPS members together with Tracker company officials effected the arrests. The trio sang like canaries and volunteered to point out a house in KwaThema where the firearm used was hidden.
In a joint effort between the EMPD Equestrian Unit members and SAPS members the said firearm was recovered at an address in KwaThema. Although no one was home, the firearm was located and later booked in at KwaThema police station.
The arrested trio is expected to appear in the Nigel and Springs Magistrates’ Courts soon to face charges of motor vehicle hijacking and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
