A family in Daveyton, eTwatwa, Mandela Extension 24, is facing unimaginable hardship after a house fire destroyed everything they owned in the early hours of the morning. The fire, which broke out around 3 a.m., left the family with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Vital documents, clothing, furniture—everything was reduced to ashes.
While the family is grateful that no lives were lost, the emotional and financial toll is overwhelming, especially for the children who are struggling to cope with the aftermath.
“We were very shocked when we realized the house was on fire,” said Ntombi Vilakazi, a family member. “The support we’ve received so far has come from our neighbors, but we urgently need more assistance.”
The family is in desperate need of shelter, food, clothing, and essential items, particularly school uniforms for their children. Community members who wish to help can contact Ntombi Vilakazi at 066 393 0014 or Thandi Nkosi at 067 266 2225.
Bacha Ba Dichaba Steps In
Touched by the tragedy, the non-profit organization Bacha Ba Dichaba quickly mobilized support. The organization’s CEO emphasized their commitment to assisting those in need, saying, “Helping where we can has become our passion. What happened to the Nkosi family really touched us as an organization. After being tagged on Facebook, we saw the urgent need to react quickly.”
The organization extended its gratitude to its donors, whose generosity made it possible to provide relief to the family.
“I still say, I cannot help everyone, but everyone can help someone,” the CEO added.
One of their strongest supporters, 100% Foundation, has played a crucial role in their ongoing efforts. Bacha Ba Dichaba encourages the community to continue extending a helping hand, not only to the Nkosi family but to all those in need.
This heartbreaking incident has shown the power of community and the importance of unity in times of crisis. The family is relying on the kindness of others to rebuild their lives, and any form of assistance, big or small, will make a meaningful difference.
