Tshwantshiso Film Production presented an outdoor movie night experience at Sam Ntuli mall in Katlehong on Saturday, 26 February 2022.
This production decided to close the month of love differently, it brought the cinematic experience to the people in a form of a mobile cinema. The Creative Director Tshepiso Tjeeko said this was one of the four movie nights they have hosted as part of their tour in Ekurhuleni.
Tjeeko explained that this was not only about the movie but to reach out to people who don’t usually have access to cinemas or events of this kind and to also promote local content. “There are no cinemas in townships, and as such we want to bridge this gap and allow the audience to explore our storytelling and to encourage young people to create stories that they relate to,” he said.
He also explained that they are a company that caters for people as they have given away about 40tickets and employed people everywhere they displayed their movies.“Everywhere we host we make sure that we hire people from that place to assist for preparations of the event, in Sam Ntuli mall we have hired about 12 people to assist,” he added.
As much as their events have proven to be successful, he said they still face the challenge of getting people used to the idea of an outdoor movie scene and they hope that as time goes by lots of people will get used to this new norm.
When we asked where they are headed next, he said: “Since this is our last event in Ekurhuleni, we willsit down and plan with the team on how we can better our projects and the cinema moving forward”.
