In an effort to combat drug usage within the Geluksdal community, ‘Zeniboi SA’ organized a unique football tournament that took place from September 23rd to the 25th, 2023, at the Geluksdal Stadium.
Zanele Magumasholo (20), the founder of ‘Zeniboi SA,’ explained that the tournament’s primary objective was to reduce drug abuse in the community while promoting increased participation in sports activities.
The tournament featured eight teams from Tsakane, divided into under-11, under-13, and under-15 divisions, competing in a knockout tournament for kits, trophies, medals, and training equipment.
“Our main goal is to raise awareness about drug abuse and provide these youngsters with a constructive outlet on the field instead of the streets. We believe that events like this one can help us achieve these objectives. Additionally, we aspire to expand the tournament by attracting more teams and securing sponsorship for future editions in Geluksdal,” said Magumasholo.
One significant challenge faced by the organizers is the deteriorating condition of the Geluksdal Stadium, which is the only sports facility available in the area.
“As the sole sports field in Geluksdal, we appeal to anyone who can assist us in renovating the stadium. We would greatly appreciate the support of a sponsor who can address this matter for the benefit of Geluksdal and Tsakane’s youth,” she added.
The tournament crowned the Junior Rabbit team as champions in the under-11 category, while the Young Stars FC claimed victory in the under-13 division, and Sibiya FC emerged triumphant in the under-15 category.
