On the 28th of September 2020 at 13h00 in Brakpan area, the Kwa-Thema EMPD precinct Officers on their way to report for afternoon duties, came across a reported stolen motor vehicle (robbed in Honeydew last year(2019 in the month of June), suspected of being involved in a spate of house robberies, around the City.When four (4) male occupants between the ages of 37 and 42, in the circulated blue Ford Focus (hatch back) noticed a branded EMPD motor vehicle approaching, they imagined being behind bars and sped off inconsiderately, on Collins road. Officers called for back up on the 2-way radio and the chase ensued.
The five (5) door lost control at the corner of Voortrekker and End, before it crashed into a stationary Chevy SUV where occupants alighted and started shooting at Officers. Our highly trained Members retaliated, injuring all four suspects, who were later transported to the nearest hospital (under police guard) for medical treatment due to slight injuries they sustained. Upon investigation, a 9mm Z88 and the 38 special revolver (with serial numbers tempered with) including twenty (20) live rounds, 4x plasma television sets, jewelry and other house appliances were uncovered in the Ford Focus. The EMPD Chief Of Police Jabulani I. Mapiyeye who was nearby, also responded for support and recommended counselling to affected Officers. Possession of suspected stolen goods, possession of a robbed motor vehicle, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition including attempted murder charges, were tabled against the foursome. As soon as they are medical fit they will appear in the Brakpan Magistrate’s Court and in-depth investigations, are underway
