On Monday 11 and Tuesday 12 August 2025, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Community Liaison Unit (CLU) and K9 Unit Officers apprehended four male suspects in separate incidents for possession and dealing in illegal substances in Duduza and Putfontein.
On Monday, 11 August 2025, members patrolling in Duduza, were approached by a member of the community to inform them about a 24-year-old male, who is allegedly selling drugs at Mandela and Sonnestraal Street.
Members followed up on the information, where they observed the suspect busy in a suspicious exchange. The suspect was apprehended and was found with 24 plastic bags of heroin (nyaope), with an estimated street value of R950 and R40 of cash in his possession.
On Tuesday, during an intelligence-driven operation, information was gathered about a 30-year-old male suspect, who was heading to Duduza to deliver substances to a client. The suspect was arrested at Sonnestraal Road and was found with 22 Mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R1100 in his possession.
As the operation continued, another lead was followed and members of CLU proceeded to a residence at Cwayi Street in Duduza, where a male suspect between the age of 20 and 30 years, was apprehended. The suspect was found with 30 ziplock plastic bags of crystal meth and 15 ziplock plastic bags of cat with an estimated street value of R4000.
Meanwhile, the K9 Unit members at approximately 09:15, arrested a 23-year-old male suspect at Zwakala informal settlement in Putfontein. The suspects wad found in possession of 20 ziplock plastic bags of crystal meth with an estimated street value of R1000 and R50 in cash.
All four suspects were arrested and transported to Duduza and Putfontein Police Stations and were charged for possession and possible dealing in illegal substances. They are expected to appear in court soon.
