years.
Sharing with the newspaper, Phahlane confessed that he did not have a big personality as a child. “I started out in this industry because I wanted to face my fear of being shy. I was scared of the microphone and I had a stage fright. I started joining eKFM in 2015 as a radio presenter and content producer. I am a qualified radio journalist through Wits Radio Academy in advanced radio broadcasting. I have also gained so much skills and knowledge in other areas like radio programming, sales and marketing, digital social media and technical support,” added the entertainer.
Thus far, the enthusiastic young man has shared stages with the legendary music group- Trompies, amaPiano giant- Kabza Da Small, music sensation-Kelly Khumalo, entertainment guru Wilson B. Nkosi, superstars Mörda and Tyler ICU, the iconic Oskido and hiphop star, K.O. Phahlane has played at Soul Train Picnic, Soul Delight Garden, the Soweto Meat Lovers 2025 Birthday Weekend, Bahama Bar and Khehla’s Place. He also mentioned how he enjoys being on radio, and behind the decks. “I am influenced by megastars like Black Coffee and DJ Fresh. Coffee brands himself very well in music, I’d say he understands different types of gigs and how to fit in all of them. Fresh on the other hand is still relevant after so many years in the industry- he evolves with us. Being a radio host and a DJ are things I enjoy because I conquered my fear of being shy, and I also make people dance out of transitioning two songs or genres to one song. This is why I prefer using Pioneer controller RX3 or CDJ’s from 850 upwards. They give out the best for me,” excitedly said the DJ.
The zealous young man attested that challenges most upcoming DJ’s face is getting recognition, time, limited resources and not enough platform to showcase their talent. Phahlane furthermore explained that he overcomes his challenges because of the network he has built around him and a strong support structure he has in his circle. Given a chance to play at an event or music festival of his choice, the DJ expressed that he would take pleasure in playing at Greg’s Exclusive White Spring Picnic, Rocking The Daisies, Back To The City and possibly, music events that take place in cruise ships.
“Currently, I have achieved 80% of my goals. I have done radio commercials that have been aired on commercial radio stations. I have played at events I’ve only dreamt of playing and I recently bagged a Friday DJ residency at News Cafè in Emperors Palace, Kempton Park. I want to thrive in the city of gold and build a footprint. In this industry, it’s vital to be impacted by disciplinarians like the late Bob Mabena or Thabo Molefe (Tbo Touch). I love how Tbo Touch encourages me to think outside the box in delivering content. He’s also expressive of his opinions,” concluded the passionate young man.
Recently, Phahlane performed at the Kota Festival which took place in Benoni on the 25th of October 2025. He will also perform at Friends of Amstel in Soweto on November 8, 2025 and Soul Train Picnic 2026 that will take place on the 5th of April 2026.
