Amidst the chaos at the Gauteng Department of Education in the Alberton district on January 15, 2024, a concerned community member from Meyersdale reached out to our media team. She expressed her distress over the overcrowded conditions and the excessively long lines, which extended beyond the premises. Our team witnessed the impassable situation, with angry parents unable to enter or exit.
One parent, seeking assistance due to a failed online application, shared her frustrating experience. Having arrived at the district at 6 am, she claimed they were unable to receive help due to allegedly corrupt employees allowing entry only to those who paid them. Shockingly, one parent revealed that an employee suggested they could receive assistance if they purchased a “cold drink.”
Despite our attempts to contact the Gauteng Department of Education communication, no calls were answered. To avoid such challenges, parents applying for Grades 1 and 8 are encouraged to use Gauteng’s online services or contact the department for assistance.
