Gauteng reveals 1000 ‘green angels’ interns

Premier Panyaza Lesufi has cleared up rumors that the launch of The Green Angels Emergency Care Internship Programme, which is part of the Nasi iSpani initiative, is just a political move ahead of elections.

During the launch at Change Bible Church in Katlehong, Ekurhuleni, Premier Lesufi also stated that it’s wrong to think that only supporters of the ruling party have been hired since the Nasi Ispani program began.

A total of 1120 emergency care interns, who successfully completed a tough selection process to join the Green Angels, received their official job offers. This year-long program aims to increase the number of qualified individuals in the emergency services sector.

“I’m happy to say today that you’re no longer jobless. Starting this month, and for the following months, you’ll receive R5000 as part of your training allowance. The Gauteng Provincial Government is pulling you out of unemployment and dependency and empowering you to stand on your own feet.”

“Don’t listen to those who claim we’re only doing this because elections are near. We’re doing it because we’re fed up with unemployment. And if anyone doubts the value of these jobs, let them speak to one of you and understand the struggle of waking up every day with nothing to do,” said Lesufi.

Welcoming the interns, he encouraged them to seize this opportunity.

Lesufi stressed the importance of remembering their past struggles and striving to improve the lives of their families.

“Just a month ago, you were all unemployed, desperate, and losing faith in the country. You felt betrayed by the government. But now, you’re here, taking charge of your future.”

Reuben Ruiters, from Gauteng Emergency Management Services (EMS), said the interns will make a real difference in providing emergency medical care in the province. They’ll undergo intense training, focusing on serving with compassion and professionalism.

“You’re here to serve, to care, and to belong. Remember that as you wear your green uniform and help those in need.”

Dr. Masemetse Baholo encouraged the interns to embrace their new roles with humility and dedication.

“Today marks a new chapter for you. Embrace the opportunity to learn, grow, and make a positive impact in your communities. Stay open-minded and never lose hope.”
