BOKSBURG – The Joshua Generation Church in Villa Liza, Boksburg, is reeling after a severe windstorm on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, tore sections of the roof from their building, leaving the congregation vulnerable and appealing for urgent community assistance.
The destructive winds left church members stunned, causing significant damage to the roof and ceilings at the corner of pansy and Sunflower streets in Extension 1. With the rainy season still looming, church leaders fear the damage will worsen if not immediately addressed.
“We are in a desperate situation,” said a church representative. “Every time it rains, water pours in, causing more destruction. We need to fix this now before the costs become insurmountable.”
The church, a cornerstone for its 150-strong congregation which includes many children and youth, provides vital free services to the community, including Bible school, Sunday school, prayer meetings, and hosting funerals and weddings. A previously run soup kitchen, which operated every Thursday, had to be suspended due to financial constraints, a setback this disaster has now exacerbated.
In an initial act of kindness, BuildusWorld Hardware heeded the church’s cry for help, donating essential building materials to stem the damage. The donation includes bricks, roofing sheets, cement, building sand, plaster sand, and building services to facilitate emergency repairs.
However, the church’s needs remain great. To fully restore the building, they require materials to fix the ceilings, floor tiles, and the outside fence. Furthermore, the congregation itself is in need, with approximately 70% of its members unemployed.
“We are not just a building; we are a family and a support system for many who have very little,” the representative added. “We are pleading with the compassionate people of Ekurhuleni to assist us in any way they can—whether with building materials, labour, or donations to help our needy members during this difficult time.”
