Between (18 and 19 August, in Tembisa and Etwatwa areas, the EMPD’s four (4) Units from Specialised Division, arrested three (3) suspects including a lady and the reported hijacked/robbed truck with some of the loot worth almost R100k, was uncovered with shaky but unharmed victims.Two (2) males and a female suspects between the ages of 26 and 40, were arrested by the EMPD Squad on Tuesday 18 August just before lunch time, after gathering evidence and going through CCTV cameras, of the robbed business premises and adjacent buildings.It is believed that at 08:00 in Phomolong section, six (6) armed male suspects stormed in one of the well-known bottle stores just after opening and took R15000 cash with a cell phone, from the male victim.
A white Nissan Impendulo local minibus taxi, was spotted driving off from the crime scene, with suspects on board. Intelligence was gathered by our Officers in possession of an identikit of the alleged taxi driver and a male suspect found hiding in a friend’s house, in Ivory Park area, was apprehended before he took Officers to a second address, in Esangweni section where two (2) accomplices (including a female), were picked up. The minibus taxi (found in Ivory Park) used in commission of a crime, was impounded to Van Ryn’s Deep (Benoni SAPS yard), R6700 cash found in one of the suspects and a robbed cell phone uncovered from a female suspect, were confiscated before the trio, were marched to Tembisa police station where charges of armed robbery and possession of suspected stolen items (cash and cell phone), were registered against them.
Yesterday(19 Aug) at 13h15 in Etwatwa area on the R25 road, the EMPD Equestrian Unit Members on crime prevention operation, came across a suspicious abandoned white Toyota Hino truck, parked on the side of the roadway. On closer inspection, two (2) mouth muted males, claiming to be a driver and the crew found with hands and feet tightened, next to liquor beverages in the loading compartment, were unscathed. After testing the recovered truck, Officers learned that it was transporting liquor valued at almost R100k and hijacked/robbed at gunpoint in Emaphupheni section (Etwatwa) earlier on, before the tracker was activated where robbers left the truck, on the side of the roadway. It is not clear at this stage if some of the cargo was looted/stolen but, the liable truck owner, promised to count the stock, before visiting the nearest police station, for further investigations.The detained trio, is expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court soon
