Gauteng EMS Calls for Applications to Emergency Care Internship Program
Gauteng’s Department of Health’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is inviting eligible individuals to apply for a 12-month emergency care internship. There are 1,120 positions available across five health districts: Johannesburg, Tshwane, Ekurhuleni, Sedibeng, and West Rand, providing ample opportunities for aspiring healthcare workers.
MEC for Health and Wellness, Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko, highlights the importance of breaking barriers, especially for previously disadvantaged groups, to join the EMS, also known as the “Green Angels.”
To qualify, applicants must have a Grade 12 certificate or equivalent and be registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Basic Ambulance Assistant (BAA), Intermediate Life Support (ILS), Emergency Care Technician (ECT), or Emergency Care Assistant (ECA).
The selection process involves a written test and interview. South African ID and a driver’s license are considered beneficial. Helpdesks will be available in various districts to assist with applications.
Dates and venues for helpdesk assistance are as follows:
- Tshwane District: Monday, 26 February 2024, Stanza Bopape Community Hall, Mamelodi.
- Sedibeng District: Tuesday, 27 February 2024, Vereeniging Civic Centre, Vereeniging.
- West Rand District: Wednesday, 28 February 2024, Chief Mogale Hall, Kagiso.
- Ekurhuleni District: Thursday, 29 February 2024, Kobie Muller Hall, Germiston South.
- Johannesburg District: Friday, 1 March 2024, Orlando East Community Hall, Orlando East.
Alternatively, applications can be submitted to the Gauteng EMS head office in Midrand or via post. The deadline for applications is 08 March 2024.
