12 drug dealers arrested

On Friday and Saturday, 24 and 25 March 2023, members of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department Drug Enforcement Unit DEU intercepted twelve (12) African males aged between 25 and 52 years, for possession and dealing in drugs in the Kwatsaduza area.

Members embarked on an operation to crack down on drug dealers in the Tsakane and Kwa-Thema areas. Officers received information from concerned members of the community, about individuals selling illicit substances, to young children in the community. On Friday 24 March 2023 between the hours of 07:00 and 14:00In the Tsakane area, officers cornered two (2) male suspects in possession of thirty-one (31) brown packets of nyaope and twenty rands (R20) in cash on Malandela Street, and one (1) male was cornered in possession of twenty-seven (27) full and four (4) half mandrax tablets with the estimated value of six hundred rands (R600) at Extension 10.

Furthermore, two (2) male suspects were cornered with nine (9) zip lock bags of crystal meth, twelve (12) full and three (3) half mandrax tablets with an estimated value of one thousand and six hundred rands (R1600) on Bambanani street. Moreover, on Libhuma street, two (2) male suspects were apprehended with nineteen (19) packets of nyaope and seven (7) packets of rock with an estimated value of one thousand rands (R1000). Meanwhile, on Mhlala Street in Kwa-Thema, two (2) male suspects were found in possession of fifteen (15) zip lock bags of crystal meth, twenty-three (23) zip lock bags of dagga, nineteen (19) packets of nyaope all with an estimated value of three thousand four hundred rands (R3400), and six hundred and eighty-five rands (R685) in cash.

On Saturday 25 March 2023 between 12:00 and 14:00 in the Tsakane area, three (3) additional African male suspects aged between 31 and 52 years, for possession and dealing in drugs. Members apprehended the first suspect, a 52-year-old African male, on Thabena Street in Extension 8 for possession of five (5) full mandrax tablets, with an estimated value of two hundred and fifty rands (R250). The second suspect, a 31-year-old African male was found in possession of twenty (20) zip lock bags of Cat and six (6) zip lock bags of crystal meth, with an estimated value of three thousand rands (R3000), on Tsakane Street in Extension 22. Lastly, on Sontweni Street, a 42-year-old African male suspect was found in possession of twenty-three (23) full and one (1) half mandrax tablets, with an estimated value of one thousand one hundred rands (R1100), and eighty-one rands (R81) in cash.

The ten suspects were marched to the Tsakane police station, while the other two suspects were detained at the Kwa-Thema police station, all charged with possession and dealing drugs. The twelve will appear in the Tsakane and Springs Magistrates Court soon.
