16 Undocumented foreign born arrested

On Wednesday 30 November 2022 at about 09h00am in the Bronberg area, the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) Bronberg Precinct in conjunction with the Crystal Park South African Police Service (SAPS) and the Department of Home Affairs, conducted a crime prevention operation, where sixteen (16) undocumented foreign nationals were arrested, and items were confiscated.

Whilst the operation was in progress, the law enforcers encountered a group of foreign nationals, who were found walking on Pretoria Road in the Petit Agricultural Holding area. When asked to produce some form of identification, about seven produced expired passports, while others could not produce any kind of identification. The Department of Home Affairs Control Immigration Capacity Unit inspected the documentation and verified that the foreign nationals were found to be in contravention of the Immigration Act (Act 13 of 2002).

As the operation continued, the law enforcers came across a hawker selling items on the sidewalk, on Houtkapper Street, in contravention of the By-Laws Regulation. The EMPD officers issued the hawker with notice and confiscated the items that were obstructing pedestrians’ right of way. The confiscated items including tyres and bicycle frames are estimated to the value of +-R10000.

The undocumented foreign nationals were transported to Crystal Park Police Station and are expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court soon. The confiscated items were booked at Crystal Park Police Station.
