MTN today announced yet another millionaire as it marked 14 years of the MTN8 tournament. Syabonga Ndlovu from Pietermaritzburg walked away with a R1 million cheque and the 2021 MTN8 Last Fan Standing title after claiming victory over her opponent in a football quiz designed to test their football knowledge. Clyde Tlou football journalist from Pretoria walked away with R80 000 cheque for the MTN8 Last Journalist Standing.
The 2021/22 MTN8 campaign again provided opportunities for MTN customers and football lovers to win prizes from the R8-million prize pool, with the ultimate prize being the R1 million MTN8 Last Fan Standing prize. “While we still find ourselves amidst the Covid-19 pandemic we are pleased to still be changing the lives of our customers and fans through the ‘Wafa Wafa winner takes all’ MTN8 property,” said Nomsa Mazibuko, MTN SA GM: Brand and Communication.
As is custom, the eight MTN8 Last Fan Standing finalists were selected from a pool of thousands of participants across the country who entered the competition by dialling *144*8#, opted in and recharged with a minimum of R10 or bought data bundles to increase their chances of winning. While journalists who competed in and were placed in the top eight of the 2021 MTN8 Last Journalist Standing weekly online quiz, were taken through to the knockout round.
Both the Last Fan Standing and Last Journalist Standing finalists were taken through four skills tests to determine the top two contestants to participate in the final round, which saw Ndlovu earning MTN8 Last Fan Standing title and Tlou the MTN8 Last Journalist standing title.

MTN8 Last Journalist Standing Clyde Tlou added: “MTN has proven that they do not only reward the teams through the MTN8 tournament but other supporters of the beautiful game are rewarded as well. I had the best time going through the different fun and engaging challenges while getting to know the other finalists and ultimately snatching the Last Journalist Standing title”.
