Daveyton, South Africa – In a swift response to a harrowing incident, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Bronberg Precinct Officers apprehended a 43-year-old male suspect on Friday, October 6, 2023, at 10:30 AM. The suspect faces charges of assault with the intent to cause Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH) and common robbery.
The incident unfolded when a 55-year-old male victim embarked on an ordinary outing to one of Gazini Street’s well-known shebeens on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, seeking refreshment. Little did he know that this visit would take a nightmarish turn.
As the victim enjoyed his time, he encountered both a friend and an unfamiliar face. With the effects of the drinks beginning to take their toll, he decided to take a quick rest in a chair. It was at this moment that the unexpected occurred. He was suddenly attacked and injured by the duo. Shockingly, his assailants swiftly made off with his hard-earned R1500 in cash, leaving him in a state of disbelief.
Swift to react to the distress call, EMPD Officers wasted no time. They tracked down one of the suspects, handcuffed him, and transported him to the Daveyton police station. Legal proceedings are underway, and the suspect is expected to appear before the Daveyton Magistrate’s Court in the near future. Authorities anticipate further arrests as the investigation unfolds.
