On Monday 27 February 2023 at 08:00, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Bronberg Precinct Officers, arrested a 24-year-old male Ethiopian national, for reckless and negligent driving.
EMPD Officers busy with Law Enforcement on Concorde Road, noticed an approaching white Toyota Hilux Light Delivery Vehicle (LDV) with one (1) occupant, driven inconsiderably.
The bakkie was at high speed and as Officers tried to stop it, the driver failed, almost running over Law Enforcers, cyclists, and nearby school children. The chase ensued and Officers applied other necessary means, to bring the Toyota single cab, to a halt on Totius road.
The nervous driver, behind the steering wheel of the LDV that is not registered and licensed, and who could not produce any means of identification including the driver’s license, was handcuffed and marched to the Crystal Park police station.
The suspect is expected to appear soon, in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court.
