Sbusiso Dludlu, an Afro-soul and jazz singer from Duduza shared his music experience and musical journey with Ekurhuleni News.
Not only is Dludlu a full-time musician but he is also a director at Mtima Records. He released an album in 2016 that’s called ‘Perseverance’. In 2018, he was in ‘The Voice Season 3’, which is a music reality competition show and he made it to the top 3 under the songstress’ team, Lira. “What inspired me to do music, is my late grandmother who passed away in 1998 and my aunt who used to sing alongside the late great Vuyo Mokoena, hence I would describe my sound as Afro-soul enhanced with all tribal elements. Growing up I’d listen to legends like Ringo Madlingozi, Caiphus Semenya and Joe Nina which explains why I have worked with musicians like Mbuso Khoza, Bheki Nqoko, Camagwini, Bozoe and Kelly Khumalo,” disclosed the young musician. Not only is he a musician but he also writes his own music. He excitedly adds that he is now composing new material and will hit the studio anytime from now. Dludlu will also have an annual birthday on the 28th of November 2021 at Phola Gardens in Duduza. “We will be performing a song titled ‘Yekela’. It is an awareness song against GBV and it’s out on all digital platforms.
Dludlu explains that one of the biggest challenges he faces as a musician is that his music is not played enough on radio and on other broadcasting platforms. “Even though my challenge is that most of my music isn’t played much, I want my people to expect lots of fun, love, the spirit of togetherness, new songs and great performances from all the featured artists I have invited to my event on the 28th of November,” uttered Sbusiso gracefully.
The young man did not only experience Lira as his judge on ‘The Voice’ but has also worked with the singer on her shows. “I had the honour to perform with Lira on two of her shows. That was indeed a blessing for me. I would also love to work with the likes of Amanda Black, Thandiswa Mazwai and Ringo Madlingozi in the future. In years to come, I see myself hosting bigger events and hopefully having my own online TV show,” concluded Dludlu.
