On Thursday, 18 May 2023, at around 10:00, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Kempton Park Precinct Officers, recovered a reported hijacked motor vehicle on Hugget Street, in the Kempton Park area.
As the officers were on patrol, they noticed a white Ford light-delivery vehicle (LDV) with a popular courier company’s insignia, abandoned near a park on Hugget Street. On closer inspection, the officers noticed that the vehicle was not locked and that there were parcels scattered across the front seat. When the vehicle was scanned, the vehicle was positively identified as reported hijacked, and a case was opened at the Norkem Park police station.
According to an initial report, it is alleged that the vehicle was hijacked on Pongola Road, while the driver was there to deliver some parcels. The driver states that he was approached by three (3) male suspects driving a black Toyota Yaris, who demanded the keys at gunpoint, putting the firearm on his head. The suspects fled the scene with both vehicles.
Although no arrests have been made, however, the vehicle was taken to Van Ryn Deep (police yard) for further investigation by police officials.
