A (26 year-old) young entrepreneur Vusumuzi Makwakwa from KwaThema decided to open up a business wherein he sells eggs. He decided to sell eggs because he believes that they are a basic need in every household and most importantly they can be served in a variety of meals.
He had always wanted to run his own business but his burning desire was enormously fuelled when he lost his job during the COVID-19 pandemic last year.
However Makwakwa told Ekurhuleni News that “I’ve named my business Vee Eggs as Vee stands for my name which is Vusumuzi. Since I started the business I consider it as a family business because through it I want to leave a legacy that will represent my family and I also want to expand it by adding livestock. What makes my business convenient is that I deliver my eggs at no cost because I want to cut out travelling expenses for my customers.”
“I want to see my brand grow and expand, as I am planning to add livestock into my business. That will benefit me a lot because I won’t need eggs suppliers, because I will get eggs from my own livestock. As a young black entrepreneur, what would certainly make me the happiest man is to see my business grow and expand nation-wide. Vusumuzi intends on building a legacy for his family as he has other hustles on the side. He added that “I would like to see Vee Eggs on the shelves at our biggest retailers in South Africa, and that would also mean that I have made it.” Vusimuzi mentions that his biggest challenge is that he likes to invest in other things whereby he ends losing money and that propels him to give up on his business.
“I have lost a lot of money trying to do something as a young person, but this time I’ve managed to pull through, I would also like to thank the mentors who have motivated me to stay put, to stay disciplined, because they have played a crucial role in my life. As an entrepreneur I have learned to be humble and to efficiently communicate with everyone not forgetting to be helpful always, as I have always believed in the African proverb that states “umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu”
Vusimuzi encourages the youth to follow their dreams by being patient, persistent, and most importantly they mustn’t give up, because they are quite a number of youthful individuals who are pushing their dreams no matter how small they are. He adds that “I know the difficulties of finances when you want to start a business, even if you don’t have enough money, don’t give up. With the little that I am making, I do my best to save so that I can go beyond as I know my dreams and where I want to see myself in the coming years. I believe we can go places, as long as we are patient, humble and dedicated.
