ActionSA Protests Surge Amid Education Crisis

On January 15, 2024, ActionSA made a scene outside the DHET Media Briefing, calling out Minister Blade Nzimande for not paying attention to the real issues facing South African students. Instead of addressing ongoing problems, the Minister was all focused on getting ready for the 2024 academic year, making everyone even more frustrated.

With activists and councillors from Gauteng by their side, ActionSA once again demanded that Minister Nzimande steps down and the whole NSFAS Board gets a shake-up. They blame them for the mess that has put many NSFAS-funded students in a tough spot.

ActionSA isn’t holding back, blaming Minister Nzimande’s 13-year run for the crisis. They say he’s let down South African students by not doing his job right, causing a bunch of problems.

Adding to the drama, ActionSA isn’t happy about Prof. Lourens van Staden taking charge at NSFAS. They heard about money problems during his time at Tshwane University of Technology and think he’s not the right person for the job, especially with all the corruption issues at NSFAS.

In a big move, ActionSA says they won’t support Prof. Lourens van Staden in his new role. They’re worried about ethics and the mess at NSFAS. ActionSA is serious about stopping corruption at DHET, promising to protect our Higher Learning Institutions and students from all the problems caused by the ANC Government’s mistakes.
