An NPO helps struggling children by donating to schools

Let’s Help Keep A Girl Child In School is a non-profit organisation determined to put young females first through their struggles.

The co-founders of this organisation are Sfiso Mabece, Sandile Mpikwa, Xolani Mtolo, Siyabonga Nkosi, Melusi Mlangeni, and Sandile Mlambo. On December 18, 2021 co-founders of Let’s Help Keep A Girl Child In School organised an event in Vosloorus. The event was a token of appreciation to the community that has always supported the organisation throughout the year 2021. Twice As Bold is another non-profit organisation that that has helped Let’s Help Keep A Girl Child In School donate pads to schools frequently.

The organisation was established in December 2020 but began its uprise in 2021 when Mabece and Mpikwa encountered a girl walking back from school crying. “We asked the little girl why she was crying and she informed us that the children at school were making fun of her because she was on her menstrual cycle and didn’t have any pads with her,” Sfiso Mabece shared with Ekurhuleni News. “I think that’s when we acknowledged how important pads are and that we needed to help children who cannot afford sanitary pads by donating them to schools,” Sandile Mpikwa added.

The name Let’s Help Keep A Girl Child In School is a depiction of how the co-founders of the organisation seek to protect females. Both Sfiso and Sandile affirm that females everywhere have more challenges compared to males. Currently, South Africa’s GBV (gender-based violence) numbers are skyrocketing and the organisation feels it should protect females from a tender age.

“In 2022 we aim to reach out to at least four provinces. We would also like to host career expositions, boot camps, extra lessons, and sports tournaments. We are also trying to meet with the government to convince them to make sanitary pads free,” Sandile and Sfiso explained. Apart from making financial donations, people can donate pads, stationery, and school uniforms. You can follow the organisation on their Facebook page @ let’s help keep a girl child in school or contact them on Whatsapp at 0797809379 for enquiries.
