The African National Congress Ekurhuleni region condemns the Democratic Alliance’s (DA) abuses of the courts in a desperate effort to retain power against democratic
Processes. The ANC calls on the City of Ekurhuleni to oppose this frivolous and desperate attempt to abuse the courts by the DA. The ANC will be joining the court proceedings as an
amicus curiae or friends of the court.
It has become a hallmark feature of the racist DA to hurl insults and false accusations at Its detractors who legitimately and democratically win over the control of Metropolitan Municipalities that were formerly under the DA-led coalitions. It is now common cause that the DA has absolutely no regard for democracy in its insatiable hunger to cling to power while areas where the majority of the working class live are deprived of services.
Our city has seen a significant decline in infrastructure maintenance and the general delivery of services, especially in townships since the DA-led coalition took charge after the 2021 Local Government Elections. The city is now the home of potholes, overgrown grass and raw sewerage runs openly on our streets.
As a result, the ANC together with other political parties saw no alternative but to remove the racist and corrupt DA from power and rid the city of the DA’s stranglehold. Consequently, on the 2nd of February 2023, the ANC working with other parties successfully removed DA speaker Raymond Dhlamini from office, an important step in the journey of ridding our city of the DA-led coalition.
The ANC in Ekurhuleni urges its partners in council not to fall for the gerrymandering gimmicks of the DA to ultimately plunge the city into an abyss. We call on them not to relent as they proceed with the business of the council and most importantly, they should work with the Accounting Officer, Dr Imogen Mashazi to meet statutory compliance deadlines to advance service delivery, sound financial management and save the city from this dark hole the DA has plunged us in.
