Since the start of the year in the City of Ekurhuleni, KwaThema alone has experienced a significant number of car hijackings. The safety of the residents of KwaThema is compromised even in the other surrounding areas.
Just recently in KwaThema in the evening on September 7 two victims, Mr Zulu and Mr Moyabelo were driving home from work in two separate vehicles, a red VW Polo Vivo and a white Toyota Hilux. The victims parked both their vehicles inside the yard at Pule street, in Rest in Peace section in KwaThema. Suddenly, Mr Moyabelo ran into the house screaming that he had been shot in the thigh.
Constable Nkululeko Magudulela of KwaThema SAPS shared to Ekurhuleni News, saying, “The witness alleges that she saw three African male carrying firearms who forced their way into the house and demanded car keys, cash and cell phones from all the three victims. Mr Zulu was also shot in the chest during the incident. The trio managed to get away with both vehicles, fortunately, the Toyota Hilux was recovered by patrolling Metro police officials along Ellis Street Wright Park Springs. Both wounded victims are in a stable condition receiving medical attention.”
Police are pleading with anyone who might have information that will lead to the arrest and prosecution of the suspects to contact his/her nearest police station.
