Black steez entertainment hosted a Mr and Miss Secondary Schools pageant at Rhoo Hlatshwayo Art Centre on the 1st of July. This event was done after four years of it being on hold due to the unfortunate passing of its founder, Sir Tones Skhosana.
The purpose of the event was to gather children from different forms of life and train them to be models and how to navigate and conduct themselves professionally in the world of modelling. As a result, this would shift their focus into something positive and beneficial for their future rather than them getting into immoral behaviour and criminal activities.
“From the auditions up to today’s event, it was not easy, because a lot of models did not believe that the competition was still existing. So looking at the people’s turn up, it fills me with so much gratitude especially the presence of the parents,” expressed Musa Phahlamhlaka, one of the event’s organizers.
The event began with electrifying performances from local artists, varying from music to theatre plays, then gradually got to the main event where the models strutted on the ramp, flashing their beautiful smiles on different titled rounds. The competition consisted of six girls and four boys from different schools around East Rand.
Winning the title Mrs Secondary School on the day was Fancyface Maswaneng, a grade 10 learner from Unity Secondary School.
She mentioned that she was not there for the crown and sash, but was there because of the passion.
“I have been to different pageants and I would not win, and I wouldn’t take it to heart because it is something that I love,” she said.
For her, failure means that it is another stepping stone to greatness, and wishes that other young queens who are still in their shells can blossom and start pursuing their dreams.
Speaking to one of the judges, Prof Samson Lehlohonolo mentioned that the organising team was looking for models who had confidence and a great personality to represent Daveyton Secondary Schools.
“We as judges had a great time and different reviews on all the models and selecting the best candidate, however, numbers were what was needed to crown a representative queen and king of Mr and Miss Daveyton Secondary School 2023/24,” he said.
